Most VPNs slow you down in games — extra hop, extra latency. Context

Latency and routing

A VPN adds 5–20 ms to ping when the server is close, 100–300 ms across continents. For competitive shooters, anything over 50 ms is rough. For RTS, MMO, racing — the threshold is higher. Steam regional pricing: a VPN can make games cheaper at purchase, but Steam restricts buying from a region that doesn't match your payment country. Game release windows: titles sometimes drop hours earlier in NZ or AU than in EU/US — a VPN gives you the early-access timezone.
