Mullvad is the privacy gold standard. They take privacy more seriously than any commercial VPN, and they don't bother with the things — affiliate programs, streaming optimization, lifetime deals — that drive other VPN sites to recommend their competitors. We include them anyway because that's what an honest comparison looks like. Flat €5/month, no annual discount, no upsells. You sign up by generating a 16-digit account number; there's no email, no name, no recovery system. You can pay in cash by mailing it. The apps are open source, all servers are RAM-only, and when Swedish police raided their office in 2023, they had nothing to take.
Vie privée et sécurité
Sweden is in 14 Eyes (the broader intelligence-sharing alliance), which is the one weakness on paper. In practice, Sweden has strong constitutional protections and Mullvad's design eliminates the data that could be shared. The 2023 raid is the most important data point: police came for evidence in a criminal investigation; Mullvad provided what they had, which was nothing. That's the only thing that actually proves a no-logs policy. Account numbers replace emails. Payments via cash, Monero, Bitcoin, or card. Apps are open source on GitHub. RAM-only across the entire fleet since 2024.
Vitesse et performance
WireGuard speeds are excellent — they were one of the first commercial WireGuard adopters. EU-to-EU on most servers gets 80-90% of unprotected. Network is smaller than NordVPN's so individual servers can occasionally be more loaded.
Streaming et torrent
Streaming doesn't work — by design. Mullvad doesn't rotate IPs to evade Netflix detection. If streaming matters, you need a different VPN. Torrenting works (P2P allowed on all servers) but port forwarding was removed in 2023 after abuse. Most casual torrenters won't notice the difference.
Tarifs
5€/month, period. Pay monthly, quarterly, annually — same per-month price. There is no discount for committing longer. There is no introductory rate that jumps later. The simplicity is part of the product.
